The Biellese protagonist at Geo & Geo

Tuesday 3 December, starting at 6:00 pm, an appointment on RAI TRE with Geo & Geo: the documentary “Back to nature” will be aired, with the Biella expert Lucio Bordignon and the director from Cagliari Davide Mocci.

It is the fourth time that Lucio Bordignon is the protagonist of a naturalistic documentary broadcast by Geo & Geo: the first time he presented a documentary on the black stork, the second spoke of the custody of the natural parks and the third of the Biella Baraggia.

This time the theme is the environmental restoration of several ex-mines of the Minerali Industriali Group, of which Lucio is the coordinator of the restorations.

In the work of Mocci – says Lucio Bordignon – we illustrate the restoration of vegetation on the lands stripped of the excavations, with the earth being re-sheltered through the laying of georetes, to avoid erosion. Then the sowing of the grass, by hand or with hydro-seedling, a special machine that sprays the seed together with liquid fertilizer. The mixtures of the seeds – specifies better Lucio – vary from area to area, to adapt them to different conditions. Where we want to favor butterflies and pollinating insects like bees, – continues the biellese expert of nature – along with the grass, wild flowers are also sown. After the grass, bushes and plants are planted. The arrangement of the vegetation is made to art, so that it can be useful for the settlement of wildlife, for example by recreating thorny hedges that can serve as a refuge for birds and small mammals. In the design, small ponds are also formed to host aquatic fauna. After a few years the environment is so well reconstructed that we no longer notice that in that place there was a mining activity“.

Davide Mocci wanted to highlight the importance of Bordignon’s training, born in the countryside following the distant knowledge handed down by his father Antonio and gradually perfected by adding the technical knowledge of modern naturalistic bioengineering. Lucio in turn taught his knowledge to his daughter Alice, an agronomist, creating a very united and productive team, both inside and outside the home. For this reason, the director considered it particularly significant to include some sections of Lucio’s life with his family while they take care of the vegetable garden, make wine and eat food from their land.

And it comes two years after donating to the ASL of Biella the equipment, the result of one of the many investments in public health made by the Tempia Foundation and the Cassa di Risparmio di Biella Foundation.

The type of laser is a high-power, latest generation device, which allows above all to treat urinary calculi and prostatic hypertrophy, two extremely widespread conditions in the population. Letter from Mayor Claudio Corradino to citizenship

After the promotion of Biella as a UNESCO Creative City, the mayor Claudio Corradino wrote a letter to the citizens.

Here is the complete text:

Dear citizens,

with great joy and enthusiasm I have the pleasure of sharing with you all the results achieved by our city. Yesterday Biella received the title and officially joined the UNESCO Creative Cities network. It is a historic result, the result of teamwork and we aim to transform it into a driving force to turn the spotlight, with international relevance, on our city. As happened in rare other occasions, having made a network among all the actors of the territory has opened up unexplored prospects: ever since I decided to run for mayor of Biella, together with my team, we unanimously maintained that this was a road right to go.

There are those who believed in it from the first phase, and it is right to share the result obtained today with the outgoing administration and the mayor Marco Cavicchioli. The result also goes to reward the institutional partners without whom the City of Biella would not have been able to build this path, starting with the Cassa di Risparmio di Biella Foundation and Cittadellarte – Pistoletto Foundation.

Having reached the finish line must not be a point of arrival but must start what can be identified as the “Second phase”: being part of the Creative Cities means cooperating for a common goal. We will engage with a series of projects for the development and exchange of good innovative practices, to strengthen participation in cultural life and to integrate culture in sustainable urban development policies. Many have asked me about the benefits Biella will have in being a UNESCO Creative City: we will have the spotlight pointed with implications in terms of tourism and collaboration in the search for innovative solutions for the territory. The development of this path will lead to a very specific result: it is an attempt to create work and increase the territorial GDP.

Together with Biella, Bergamo also entered the Unesco network, to which we congratulate. The other Italian cities that have already won the title are Bologna for Music, Fabriano for Crafts & Folk Art, Rome for Cinema, Parma for Gastronomy, Turin for Design, Milan for Literature, Pesaro for Music, Carrara for Crafts & Folk Art and Alba for Gastronomy.

From today among these prestigious cities we can also officially add Biella. We must be proud of it. All together.

A warm greeting.

Claudio Corradino

MAYOR OF BIELLA
